For Woven Solid, several months were spent developing a production process and technique to knit together strands of casting material. The completed piece then dries bone-hard, rigid and lightweight.
With the prototype and proof of concept complete, the studio is excited to produce full-scale works for collectors. While still flexible, each individual strand is prepared, rolled out, and woven into the row above it. After it dries, a new row is begun. For this prototype, the studio must roll out strands that are sixty-eight inches long, and deftly weave them to produce a work that is nineteen inches wide.
The completed piece is rigid and light. The finish is tinted gesso.
